Hi,

I reinstalled my drivers, tested DirectX with no errors.  Copied my Quake2 file & stripped it right down.  Delted all r1q2, r1gl...  used the websetup to reinstall into the new quake2 directory.  I can still use opengl with quake2.exe but I crash with r1q2.  Maybe you will see something in the following report that will point me in the right direction.

Thanks alot.

It seems your OpenGL isn't working properly. R1Q2 is crashing because it is trying to fall back to ref_soft.dll and your ref_soft is crashing on startup. Try deleting ref_soft.dll and running r1q2.exe +set developer 1 +set logfile 1 and then checking baseq2/qconsole.log for errors.

When I deleted ref_soft.dll I couldn't run r1q2.exe.  I got the the following quake2 fatal error;  ref_gl.dll (re.Init Failed) & ref_soft.dll (file not found).  When trying to run quake2.exe, I received the message 'couldn't fall back to s/w refresh'.

I just want to play & have some fun & for the time being I can still do this, w/o R1Q2 (with opengl).  BUT it just doesn't feel good/right playing on ACME without supporting the implementation of R1Q2.

Man, I guess I'm the only computer illiterate noob around here.

No, you're one of the few people that actually try to get their problems solved instead of only whining about it in the servers. Problems happen, that's unavoidable, I guess. Don't feel bad just because your problem seems to be a bit more complicated than some others..

Your opengl32.dll file should be in your \windows\system32 directory. Make sure there are no other versions in other directories along your path. Use the search tool in Windows explorer or use dir opengl32.dll /s from a cmd prompt at c:\ to see how many you may have. You will find copies in \windows\system32\dllcache and \i386 but that's OK. Those are the system recovery copies, leave them alone. Those should also be identical files if everything is running properly.

\windows\system32 directory is where I found it through the search.  That's the only copy.

Hi R1CH, as mentioned on ACME, I've d/l'd the newest R1Q2.  I do actually get a crash report.
R1Q2 encountered an unhandled exception and has terminated. If you are able to
reproduce this crash, please submit the crash report to r1ch.net when prompted or
post this file and the crash dump .dmp file (if available) on the R1Q2 forums at
http://www.r1ch.net/forum/index.php?board=8.0

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE LATEST VERSIONS OF R1Q2/R1GL/ETC!

This crash appears to have occured in the '<unknown>' module.
Please note, unless you are using both R1Q2 and R1GL, any crashes will be much
harder to diagnose. If you are still using ref_gl, please consider using R1GL for
an accurate crash report.

Delete your ref_soft.dll, it is causing the crashes since R1Q2 is not able to load R1GL and tries to fall back to ref_soft which in your case crashes. You can find a working ref_soft at http://r-1.ch/original-3.20-anticheat-approved-renderers.zip which I would recommend you replace yours with. The problem is still your R1GL isn't loading properly. Run this:

Make a shortcut to r1q2.exe and on the target line set it to this:

r1q2.exe +set developer 1 +set logfile 1 +set vid_ref r1gl

Then after it fails to load, post your baseq2/qconsole.log here.
