heyas

i use a full sky replacement in my custom pak file, and they take up a good amount of space
as TGA files. after converting them to PNG files, it reduced the size of them altogether from 35mb to 8mb
unfortunately R1Q2 doesnt seem to support this. and i was hoping that we may see this in a future version possibly  grin

I Agree, png support for everything that needs either pcx/tga so we can have full replacements.

If you have a copy of the pak, that would help testing as I have no hi res skies to test with.

there not high res (well some are 512x512 but i figured quake2 resized those), just normal custom skys that the size could be reduced by converting them to png, heres a pak with the skys from my pak converted to png from tga

The old Quake2 TGA code does support runlength compression which, while not as good as PNG compression, will reduce your file sizes (sometimes dramatically).  Make sure you're saving with RLC enabled.  Most TGA capable image programs should support it.  I know that The GIMP does.
