I'm pretty sure this isn't an r1q2 specific problem but i can't figure out whats wrong, when i start r1q2 it gives me this error and asks me if i want to make a debug point, if i start quake2 it just says that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. It ran fine about 2 days ago and I havent made any major changes since then.

Sorry for the double post but i couldn't figure out how to edit, after more investigation when starting EGL it crashes with the error "Find/load of UI library failed!", yet for whatever reason Sulq2 starts up fine.

Try using R1GL, it gives a more detailed error code.

I get the same error with R1Q2, when I attempt to use it (with ref_gl or ref_r1gl) on my work comp.
I also get that exact EGL error on startup as it tries to initialize the GL stuff.

I'm pretty sure it's caused by my really lame vid card (8mb ATI that barely scrapes out any GL performance) and crap old drivers. I've tried taking all of the unused .dll files out of my q2 directory and changing a few settings in my config, but none of these helped.

My setup at home is identical except for the vid card (64mb gforce4 mx440) and drivers, and both clients kick arse on that comp.

regular old Q2 will run fine though, and even in opengl at fullscreen 800x600 x32bit colors..

Found a simple fix for this... don't know why it worked, but it did.

I renamed my quake2.exe to something different
and renamed the r1q2.exe to quake2.exe.

when I run r1q2 now, it works fine. no "couldn't register class" errors.

WOW Quake 2 shouldn't even startup if you rename the r1q2 to quake2......hmmm strange.
