Try removing the [] from the name, they might not be allowed or work correctly.

I experienced this too.

At first it worked fine, then after several restarts of the bot and some .conf tweedling, it failed to join the channel.  My bot's name has [  ]'s in it as well.

To fix, I simply quit the bot, deleted everything in the ./data dir, and restarted... voila!

Hope that helps,

Mine does this :
C:\Perl\bin>perl bitch.pl
Executing config file...  [  OK  ] (GeorGe from bitch.conf)
Trying Time::HiRes...     [  OK  ] (hi-resolution ping times enabled)
Trying to set alarm...    [FAILED] (not applicable for this OS)
Loading factoids...       [  OK  ] (loaded 0 factoids (0 denied))
Connecting to server...   [  OK  ] (connected to hokage.ethereal.web.za:6667)

C:\Perl\bin>
well, its the same, and the name is simply "GeorGe" :/
It doesnt join the channel or server so it seems (Doesnt show up on a /whois george)
