If you run a Q2 server, it is recommended you subscribe to a mailing list at http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/r1q2/listmanager.php

I will use this list to announce any serious security problems in Q2 and related things such as Q2Admin, so I hope it will be low volume Smiley. Things such as the cmd execution bug in < b1917 will warrant such attention. Non-security related updates will not be posted. Your email address will not be shared with anyone.

Nope, it's just an announcement list. I'd prefer any security issues reported to me privately so I can get a chance to fix them.

I'm changing this into a general Q2 server security related announcements list now. Security issues in things such as Q2Admin and other popular server-side things will also be reported.

good on you r1ch.. i figured a lot of people will simply read this post and continue on, so i thought i should take the time to say its great that you're continuing to improve on quake2 where nobody else has/will.

regarding the recent announcment of the b6358, is this affecting the linux builds? I downloaded the r1q2ded from the web site and it's still on b5930.

Use the updater to get it Smiley. Updated download links.

I always have fun with the updater. I don't have console access on three of our hosted servers so I can't run it there. It runs fine on my linux box here so I end up updating it there and ftp the new version to the servers. r1q2 itself won't run on that box, (seg faults at start), so I have to build it from source. Ah, well, it helps me remember all my linux console commands.

I'm running r1q2ded-old under linux binary compatibility on my FreeBSD 5.4 server (quake2.jble.com:27910), and when I try to run the updater it fails with "ELF binary type "0" not known.".  r1q2ded works but segfaults so i'm using r1q2ded-old.  any ideas on how i might get the updater working?

thanks,

The updater is statically linked with linux libs since it requires openssl and curl which not everyone has installed. To get it working on BSD, you can rebuilt it from source: see http://www.r1ch.net/forum/index.php?topic=222.0 - the code may need a bit of tweaking to build in BSD, not sure. In any case, using the updater isn't 100% necessary - you can access the updated files directly at http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/r1q2/update/
