When I run the bot, after a short time my system slows, I run top to check things and ram use will be almost 100%  as well as a big chunks of swap (which I usually dont touch) and the process for top itself shows almost 100% of the CPU.

I have to restart the system to clear it up.
when I check top b4 running the bot I use at most 30-50% ram, no swap, and little CPU. top does not even show in the list

huh?

that's a useless problem report if you don't include what kind of computer you run it on. perl can be quite the cpu stresser if you run a really old computer with low ram. what else is running on the system? x? anything else that loves lots of memory?

sorry, about the lack of that info
it was the end of a long day ;^)

I run it on a AthXP 2.2Ghz, 400Mhz FSB, 512MB ram

Services running at boot:
cupsd
esound
gkrellmd
gpm
lm_sensors
nfs
ntp-client
ntpd
portmap
syslog-ng
vixie-cron

I have the same results whether I run nothing but the bot after boot, or run it with X loaded and my irc client loaded.

Thanks for helping, I hope you have enough info for a good guess
